Metz Cathedral

This is the ceiling of the nave of Metz Cathedral, which is 40 metres high. Construction of the cathedral started in the 1220s and took 3 centuries to complete! I am in awe of how this was done without any of the machinery and technology we have today.

We stopped overnight in Metz en route to the Alps. My top tips for anyone planning a continental holiday are :

1) Metz will be a beautiful city WHEN IT'S FINISHED! At the moment they seem to be digging up EVERYTHING, which makes navigation a nightmare!

2) Don't, and I really mean DON'T attempt to drive through Geneva during rush hour. Honestly it's no fun and the only people who made any progress at all were those on two wheels.

3) Do not believe anything your satnav tells you.. It has about as much idea as me (i.e. none at all) about where you are going and how long it will take to get there!

Despite all the above we arrived at our destination and driving will be kept to a minimum for the next 6 days!

Thank you so much for all your kind comments and good wishes over the last few days. It's been lovely to share our experiences with you and blipping has been a great diversion!
