Anti-Mass by Cornelia Parker

A moving work by the British artist Cornelia Parker, who also installed the wonderful PsychoBarn on the roof of the Metropolitan museum in NYC this summer. This work is constructed from the remains of a black Baptist church destroyed by arsonists in the south--it had a profound emotional impact on me.  It's in the de Young Museum in San Francisco, where we also saw two superb exhibitions:  Danny Lyon's photographs and films from his intensely activist career, starting with the civil rights movement in the early 1960s, and the Frank Stella  retrospective which I had seen a year ago at the Whitney in NYC--it was equally spectacular here.

Back at home our host Ellie prepared a marvelous supper of Dungeoness crabs--a local specialty; see the extra.
