Miner's lettuce

Went up to the allotment to dump the kitchen compost and feed the little blighters. There was still some green stuff left to pick, including this flourishing miner's lettuce . It wasn't till I looked it up that I realised that the miners were gold miners; I'd had trouble imagining it being popular around the coalfields of Britain.

I haven't yet detected any flavour to speak of, but it's remarkably green and a bit crunchy and is apparently useful at fending off the scurvy.
