Above And Beyond...

Gabalfa Interchange

I had a call out mid morning which ended at The University Hospital of Wales, Heath, Cardiff.  Next door is Gabalfa flyover, which when you drive over it gives lovely views. The blip photo shows the fly-over looking South towards Cardiff Bay.

Strangely, the sky was showing the remnants of the sunrise, which was a nice surprise when I downloaded it.

Gabalfa interchange is a major three level junction located in the northern suburbs of Cardiff. It appears that the name of the junction comes from the area it is situated within, which originally comes from Gabalva House that was situated on the site of the present day estate. Construction of the flyover started in 1969 and finished in December 1971 and links the M4 from London to the A48 which takes you along Western Avenue into the centre of Cardiff.

To make the flyover, 100 houses, a dance hall, church and vicarage were demolished. I remember them building it. How times move on!
