Hummer in the snow
Unlike the flamingo I blipped the other day, the little hummer is real and this weather is hard on the it! G has insulated the feeder but it freezes, so we've been bringing it in overnight. When I hung it out at first light this morning, the hummer arrived almost instantly. There are a couple of them around, and this one sits on the wire of the fuchsia basket that I didn't take down before we went away last week because there were still a few little flowers on it. The basket hangs beside the feeder, and this little guy is obviously protecting his territory because every time another hummer approaches, he chases it away. He perches here almost all day. The light is really flat, and I had to shoot this on automatic through the window so I didn't scare him away. This will likely be my entry for the weekly challenge of Something Tiny.
It's so beautiful outside, a winter wonderland, at least 6 inches of snow and still snowing. Although he still isn't feeling well, G got out the snow blower and cleared our driveway, the pad outside the garage, and paths to the well house, wood shed, compost bin and bird feeder. Funny, we never had a snow blower when we lived up north for all those years, and now that we live in a place with much less snow most winters, we have one. Thank goodness, because the snow here is so much wetter and hard to shovel, and it took ages to shovel our long driveway before we got the machine. And...we're not as young as we used to be (although we could still shovel it if we had to). :))
