Full to bursting
It's starting to become apparent when I've recently been through London, or any decent sized transport hub, that the UK's infrastructure cannot cope with what it has to service. London feels like a battle and I haven't been on a tube recently where I wasn't fighting for space. Trains don't seem to run to time when there is overloading and it shouldn't take two hours to get to Heathrow from Kings Cross, as it did today. Are we starting to see clear results from chronic under-investment? Is it fair that passengers are forced to stand after paying high prices because a fat cat somewhere chooses not to deploy more carriages or more regular trains?
In countries that don't have revenues to finance infrastructure, these questions bother me less, but it jars in the UK where there is enough wealth to be able to improve services.
I enjoy flights to Asia as in general the average person size is smaller and you've more chance of not having to compromise on personal space. Although a petite Asian woman is my neighbour of choice, there's a jovial medium-sized Scotsman next to me who so far seems considerate with his elbows.
Blip of the delicious brunch with the Mulligans. A treat to start the day before a mammoth effort of packing, tidying, boxing, lugging and queuing.
