The "I Love Cake" Bird!

We found this ancient bread/cake at the back of a cupboard two years after its "best before" date.  It appeared to be perfectly edible, which was almost worrying! Anyway, we decided to offer it to the birds.
The small birds nibbled at it but it has sat there for two weeks without major changes.
Yesterday a jay found it, and today there were three jays queing to eat cake. They bit off large chunks and then flew to a nearby branch to deal with it, leaving room for the next jay.
(Update - the next day it was completely gone!)
