Red Sky In the Morning
Has the Blipper Yawning!
or, the Mad Scramble to get to Hamble!
My 5.35 train and ultra early start out to Hamble-le-Rice was not in vain. Nor was the taking of the BeFree tripod, as the Wonderful deep rose reds of half hour before sunrise turned to this even more vibrant affair. But soon it paled to pathetic blandness and sunrise itself was comparative rubbish.
Those who remember the very popular 1980-90's 'Howard's Way' series on TV (now available as a big boxed set) may already know that the story and locations were all set/filmed on the River Hamble (and thereabouts).
The rest of morning and early afternoon was spent trying to follow the shoreline right round to Netley, but many obstacles means that this is impossible, even though the Ordnance Survey map says it is!
Not just natural obstacles but big things like BP's chemical plant with massive pipeline that juts right out into the Solent, where massive ships deliver/remove it all. So, plenty of photographic interest of many varieties today!
