6am, time to leave

early morning shot of one of Porto's main landmarks, the Monsterio da Serra do Pilar, founded in the 16th century. the circular church and cloisters are wonderfully lit at night. in the early 20th century this amazing building became an army barracks - not nearly as romantic as a monastery!! you can walk up to the terrace - which we did one day before the port lodge tour as it is on the same bank of the river - for yet more great views. the Dom Luis 1 bridge that spans the river has two levels - the metro runs along the top, cars at the bottom. brave kids jump off the bottom into the river! you can actually walk along at the top, alongside the metro track with no protection!!! there is a sign or two saying the trains have priority...

so, home now and pretty shattered. I haven't even started to look at everyone's pics from the last few days, but I intend to do that tomorrow, hopefully. I may not comment on every picture, but I will look faithfully at them all.

nice to be back!!
