The Lord Mayor's Carol Concert
December 15th
After spending a very enjoyable afternoon in Leeds with friends, walking round the Victoria Arcades, the new John Lewis Centre, Corn Exchange, and German Market, we all made our way to the Town Hall for the Lord Mayor's Carol Concert.
A first for me as I had never been inside this magnificent building before.
My blip showing the beautiful organ, was taken as the Leeds Philharmonic Chorus were taking their seats. ( 100 plus of them)
They were joined by the Rothwell Temperance Band, and Alan Horsey played the organ.
We had a wonderful evening, which included many well known carols, which we all joined in.
O come,all ye faithfull.
It came upon a midnight clear.
Silent Night.
The First Nowell.
While shepherds watched their flocks by night.
Hark! the herald -angels sing.
The highlight of the Chorus singing was:
For unto us a Child is born .( Handel's Messiah).
The Band music included:
White Christmas.
The Twelve Days of Christmas.
But my favourite, which isn't actually a Christmas song, was Mr Sandman. Played with a lot of humour by the bell ringers.
What a fabulous evening. We all came out felling very uplifted, and full of the joys of Christmas.
Many thanks to them all, and I hope the retiring collection raised a lot of money for the Mayor's charities, in support of Epilepsey Action and Heart Research UK.
I will try and put up some extra photos.
Corn Exchange, The big wheel outside the Town Hall, and what MrC wants for Christmas!
