Steffi & Nero

Nero was one of the two horses Steffi and Maria learnt to ride on. He was Angie's first horse, a trotter who didn't make the grade on the racecourse and sold off "cheaply". He was one heck of a character:

Born 1.10.1980 well that's what was put in his EU horse passport many years later. Angie bought him on 31.10.1988 for 3000 DM from a farmer who it then transpired was a part.time dealer. A few days after getting him, he started to cough like mad and it seems had been "doped" with injections to get by the inspection. This cough stayed with him for the rest of his life but for most of the time with care and lots of pills and powders were able to keep him enjoying life until we had to put him down on 25.07.2005 with a chronic hoof problem which had become so painful he could barely stand.

Much missed by very many who enjoyed riding him, including my son and daughter. One friend, Mona, still today as I post this in 2016, has very moist eyes when she thinks of him. She adored him and refused to ride any other horse - and Nero adored her too.
