Foam
Halfway through this National League North fixture between Bradford Park Avenue and Brackley Town it was noted that the referee seemed reluctant to use "shaving foam" to mark out the free kicks. "No," said one wag, "he's not old enough to have shaving foam."
Youthful referees aside, this was an entertaining fixture as Avenue hosted the sole remaining team in the top six tiers of English football yet to beaten away from home this season. Sorry Brackley, your streak ended here.
Brackley took the lead in the second minute, bundling in a corner while the Avenue ultras were still making their way out from the clubhouse. Bradford proceeded to dominate the rest of the half and finally equalised with a fine long range strike from Tom Davie. The second half was finely balanced before former Bristol City, Preston North End, Wolves, Barnsley, Blackpool, Sheffield United and Tranmere veteran Matt Hill headed in the stoppage time winner.
Following their miserable start to the season, Avenue have now won five of their last seven league games and with today's win have just about grabbed the coat tails of the teams above the relegation zone. The Great Escape is on.
