Ketagihan

These two young women at Banda Aceh airport made me think about my own smartphone usage. I can equate a time around four years ago when I acquired a smartphone with poorer sleep and a decreasing ability to concentrate. For me this is partly personality driven - I want to be responsive and I'm always curious about new emails, notifications etc. - but it has led to a feeling that other tasks can't be completed as efficiently and without various interruptions.

The automation with which we reach for our phones and scroll for notifications, compared to a time a few years ago, is testament to the power smart technology has come to have.

In 2017 I will institute some changes. Let's smash the smart technology industry and go back to a simpler time.

I had to look up the Indonesian word for 'addictive' on my phone. Ok, smartphones have some uses.
