Ailsa Craig

I headed home today, and took the coast road up the Ayrshire coast which meant that for the first part of my journey I was accompanied by the always brooding presence of Ailsa Craig on the horizon. For my birthday last year we took a boat trip out round the island from Girvan; unfortunately we weren't able to land but it was absolutely fascinating getting up close and personal with this mysterious place as we chugged all the way round it. And it was brilliant to see all the seabirds and seals - it felt very strange watching the birds wheeling and crying all around and not to have David Attenborough narrating the experience!
