Malham

At 12, we set off on the long hike over the moors to Malham. The forecast was mixed - heavy showers into the afternoon. The first half went well, a long climb up to the moor, past some amazing limestone formations and caves. We passed an amusing couple following a guidebook called "yorkshire tea room walks", dressed in jeans and converse, hopping from rock to rock to hopelessly avoid getting wet feet. They said that they'd been looking for a Victoria Cave for about 2 hours... I hope they found it before the weather hit!

The storm that hit us was something else, drenching us to the skin through our raincoats (though mine was from Urban Outfitters so not really the most weatherproof at the best of time) and continued for the next hour. By the time we saw Malham in the distance it had just cleared, with amazing sun, and we just made it to a pub before the next storm hit - these walkers weren't so lucky. The river went up and up - and we decided that walking back might induce hypothermia, so we called on Fay's mum to give us a lift.

She managed to avoid the flash floods that had appeared everywhere, and we ended up going back up across the moors to avoid the worst floods. Amazing views of Malham Cove, and the limestone pavement above it.
