MonoMonday:Explore
Thank you to FlyingPRGal whose theme for MonoMonday this week is "Explore".
Exploration is a big part of our local history.
The main highway through the Blue Mountains marks the route taken by the famous explorers, Blaxland, Lawson and Wentworth, when they became the first Europeans to cross Australia's Great Dividing Range in 1813.
This Obelisk commemorates the re-naming of Blackheath by Governor Macquarie after he followed in their footsteps two years later.
Although it is just around the corner from our house I have to confess I had never really noticed it until it starred in the recent Rhodo Revue.
It was an entertaining story of how the Obelisk wanted to cross the road (it was sick of being stuck in the same place for 200 years) and the usual local bureaucracy which got in the way.
