I come from a military family. Four generations serving King, Queen and country. Mums adored grandson is as I write this guarding HM the Queen at Buckingham Palace.

His Job is to march the soldiers out of the palace to the sentry boxes around the palace and change the guard every two hours. He FaceTimed mum earlier from inside the palace from the guards station where they sleep when on duty. Today is his first wedding anniversary but duty calls.

Mum has just put the soldier decoration on the tree that he sent her. Mum has forgotten a few family members but not Mathew. She asks for him every day, sometimes 10-15 times, sometimes at 3am but we have a cunning plan in place. He has sent several video messages and if for some reason he cannot ring her, I play one of them and she is happy for a couple of days or until he can call her. He tells her she is his No 1 Queen. Not sure what Lizzie would say to that :-)
