Sgwarnog: In the Field

Stump

Bradford has fossil tree stumps like this in two of its parks, this one in Lister Park and another in Horton Park.

This particular specimen of Stigmaria (branching tree root fossil) was found in a nearby quarry in 1889, and is a remnant of a Carboniferous forest from 330 million years ago. It features within a geological trail at the northern end of the park.

Today 4 & 7yo and I spent the afternoon doing usual Lister Park things, including a visit to a great "Games in the Park" exhibition at the Cartwright Hall gallery, which incorporated a Bradford-based photo reconstruction of Bruegel's Children's games.

We're easing our way back into the Bradford scene after our week away.
