Chester FC 1 Liverpool 2

A rather unusual way to spend a Tuesday lunchtime as the Blues played Liverpool in a friendly with a 1pm kick-off. The quickly arranged match attracted just under 500 supporters which wasn't bad under the circumstances. Normally these games are played behind closed doors.

Obviously it wasn't the Liverpool first team and was described as Liverpool U23s but I was told that there were nine players with first team experience including Mamadou Sakho who cost them a mere £18 million (probably more than double what Chester have spent on players since the club originally started in the 19th century). Also in their team was new teenage wonderkid Ben Woodburn who is from nearby Tattenhall and became Liverpool's youngest ever goalscorer a couple of weeks ago..

Chester weren't at full strength either and it was a mix of first teamers, reserves, youth team and trialists. The Blues took the lead against the run of play but Liverpool deservedly won the game 2-1. It proved to be a very good runout and one of the trialists in particular looked worthy of a second look.

The game fitted in well with my Christmas shopping so I hope they do something like this again in the future.

My blip shows Liverpool's Ovie Ejaria jumping for the ball watched by Chester's Tom Shaw and Matty Waters.
