Midnight marauders

This is a tiny fraction of the thousands of leaf cutter ants that are busily hauling leaves to their underground lairs. This African tulip tree, probably 30 ft. tall,  is next to our stairs, and we watched a steady stream of these ants marching from the very top to their entryway, each one carrying a portion of leaf. Last year they stripped an entire lime tree in one night.
