yeasty

our plans for the first day of winter and the solstice involved getting up two and a half  hours before sunrise, driving 20 miles and then walking across fields in the dark to a special place to watch the sun come above the horizon. Except that the weather forecast was for heavy rain just at that very time of day.

Instead we waited until the sun finally put in an appearance at noon and then took the new sourdough starter for a walk around the woods to get some interesting yeasts. It seemed like a suitably kooky thing to do.

Sunrise today 0838
Sunset today 1548

Tomorrow is actually the shortest day, with 7 hours and 9 minutes of (weak) daylight. Then we will see the return of the light. Hurrah!
