At Carlisle museum I spent a lot of time staring at the lovely Ilam Pan,  but my shots of it were so disappointing that I went with this weird and intriguing fragment of a face pot. These are odd little objects, so un- Roman in style, and unique to what was then frontier country, the remote province of Britain.
