sitting waiting for the Creation Theatre production of the Merchant of Venice to start, when this appeared!
The production, in the Said Business school amphitheatre, Oxford, was excellent - go if you can. Watching the sky darken as the stars come out is very atmospheric. Tonight, a huge flock of seagulls flew over in the dark, phosphorescently white where the stage lights struck them, almost as if they were a theatre special effect.
It's a difficult play to stage today, none of the characters are sympathetic, but this production pulled it off as well as you can
