Chopper on the Thames
Today dawned clear and bright in Hampton, so I took the train Londonwards up to Clapham Junction, Britain's busiest rail junction, or so they say. I walked from the station through the (fairly) mean streets of Battersea down to the Thames at Battersea Reach, where the building of expensive high-rise apartments continues and heaps of large boats were lying upright in the mud; the tide was out.
I passed the heliport and wondered idly how often helicopters land there. I hadn't gone more than 50 yards when the sound of an approaching chopper cut through the noise of the jets coming down towards Heathrow Airport, some 12 miles away as the crow, or Jumbo jet, flies. I was lucky to be there and caught the helicopter landing.
I walked a circle back to the station as the sun was beginning to go down behind all the tall buildings. Home to Oban tomorrow.
