In, looking out

Drove through slush, sleet and hail this morning to get the last of the Christmas food from the town.  It's Thursday, Christmas is on Sunday, but it was Chaos!  Word had spread that, because of the weather, Tesco's had had its last delivery until after Christmas, so every man and his dog entire family were in there, shopping as if for some supposed famine.

The car park was full, queuing to get in and out, all the car lights on, windscreen wipers going, folk driving like eejits, then when I finally got in not a turkey to be had, other than frozen.  Lots of grumbling and cross faces and snarling going on, far too much snappiness for the season of goodwill!

Lidl's car park was much the same, so off to the Co-op.  No queues, an almost empty car park, and a very nice looking turkey crown at a reasonable price, plus Fair Trade wine, smoked salmon, more cream (for emergencies!) and a bottle of Amontillado!  Apart from the sausage meat from the village shop tomorrow, that's it, my list is ticked off, we do not need another thing.

Managed a quick coffee with friend Sally, then slid gently home again to find places to stash it all.  What makes us like this?  Would it be the end of the world if we had stew from the freezer on Christmas day?  It is as there is a feeling of guilt if we fail to provide the perfect Christmas dinner.  Madness!
