Quiet before the storm
I arrived at work early. Clouds meant that the light over Lake Pupuke was more diffuse than bright. Rangitoto beyond the North Shore peninsula is more hazy than normal for this time of the year. The whole is quiet, peaceful, even gentle.
The working day was none of those things. I was able to sit with my coffee and sandwiches and complete the Guardian cryptic before returning to writing reports and notes for the people seen today. I was there an hour later than I had hoped.
However, I was home in time to join S, our daughters and the Auckland grandboys in a trip to the movies, where we saw Rogue One. Full of archetypes in both characters and storyline. On the way home after the movie, J mentioned that the Alt-Right in the US had boycotted after it was made known that they are seen as the Empire (especially the storm troopers) rather than the rebels (= good guys). Perhaps there is hope for the world if such a group actually see themselves as being the same good guys that the rest of us see as being the good guys. Knowing what is good is a big step towards being that picture of goodness.
