Don't let go!
It's that time of year again, so the air show comes to the local town. Adding my few penneth of camera equipment to the $000s of cameras already there pointing skywards at the end of the pier.
Apart from the Breitling Wingwalker on a Stearman biplane, the other highlights were the RAF Hawk solo display, which required half the pier occupants to change their underwear after it's initial low-level approach that was almost inaudible until it passed and opened the throttle, frightening the life out of those who had not spotted it's run in.
The RAF Falcons dropped in again (see last year's blip), although thrilling as always, it was not as nicely shaped as last years.
The piece de resistance was the Avro Vulcan. It enterer the arena low, large and loud. If you are not familiar with this aircraft, it is a remnant of the Cold War, designed to drop atomic bombs beyond the Iron Curtain. It has a huge delta wing in fact it looks almost like a flying triangle. Emma sat there with her fingers in her ears as the pilot wound up the four Bristol Olympus engines and our skeletons rattled with the vibrations. This aircraft is the only Vulcan flying now - the originals could have flown at nearing supersonic speed but it took it a little slower today.
The Red Arrows are coming tomorrow!
