The flighty Coal Tit

I watched this little character for quite a while.
  I noticed that it went down to the feeder and then back up into the Sycamore tree.Where I assumed it ate its food?
   But it never seemed to be in the tree long enough to eat a whole peanut.So I watched it.And to my amazement.Saw it stow away the food under the Lichen on the boughs of the tree???
  I have never seen them do this before!
Are they expecting some bad weather or something?
  Has anyone else seen this behavior?
