Powerless
The electricity went off about midnight on Boxing Day and came on at 7pm this evening. Talk about being powerless!
First thing there was just a very low trickle of power; the lights would gently glow, the internet was working, but not enough strength to run the shower or the heating. I put two cups of water into the kettle and it took about 20 mins to boil, but at least we got a cup of coffee each!
Luckily we were invited out to lunch on the adjoining island, Burray, which by then had their electricity back on. A relaxing afternoon with good company and lovely food. Ollie, Scratch and Mollie all behaved themselves too!
Driving home later we saw lots of lights on and anticipated a warm and well lit homecoming but no, the village was still in darkness. Generators were being shipped up from south apparently! Nipped next door to neighbours who have a gas hob and filled the hot water bottle and thermos flask then retired to bed with battery powered lamp and some of the multitude of books we'd received for Christmas. Just getting cosy and when the power came back on! Dilemma - should we get up or stay in bed? Bed won, and we were asleep before 9pm!
