Melksham (Monday 26th December 2016)
I had a quiet Boxing Day as I was between long drives to Dorset and the West Midlands, but I did pop over to Melksham in the morning as it was a fine bright day. I found myself beside the River Avon in the town centre and wandered up to the boat house, where I was very pleased to see a pair of swans with a full-grown cygnet.
I had seen the swans with two newly-born cygnets on 2nd June but didn't know what had happened to them as they had never been there on any subsequent visit. I often see that stretch as it is adjacent to the car park for Waitrose. Pleased to discover that at least one of the cygnets has made it so far.

Lozarhythm Of The Day:
Katie Melua and 23-piece Gori Women's Choir/Teona Tsiramua - The Little Swallow (recorded live, The Red Hall, Georgian National Opera Theatre, Tbilisi, October 2016)
From Katie Melua's new album In Winter, a British-based singer from Georgia, who said of it: “It felt right to sing the piece in its original language, plus Ukrainian belongs to the eastern Slavic languages and is close to Russian which is widely spoken throughout Georgia. I knew we had a better chance at pronouncing Ukrainian than English with the choir. But to be sure, we rang round to see if there were any Ukrainians living locally and it turned out the Mayor of Gori had a Ukrainian wife. She kindly came to visit us in the studio to give us any pointers on the vowels and consonants pronunciations.”
