The Lake of Menteith

An unexpected very very welcome visit to Aberfoyle this morning. 

I always take a slight detour down to the Port of Menteith to enjoy the view over the lake to the island of Inchmahome, the largest of the three islands in the centre of the lake.

The peaceful, wooded island was chosen as a monastic sanctuary. Mary Queen of Scots found sanctuary there when she was a very young child.
