The Kelpies and Us

Folks north of the border will be familiar with these extraordinary metal horse sculptures near Falkirk but I bet hardly anyone in London has ever heard of them.

Kelpies are mythical shape-shifting Scottish water spirits

I've seen a lot of pictures but nothing compares to seeing them in real life. Garry, Graham and Graham's mother Nan can be seen at the base (to give you some idea of scale).

Inside the visitors centre there is an amazing film about how sculptor Andy Scott built these 30 foot creatures. To me, the drawing of how their bodies might be moving below the ground was equally fascinating. Also a rather charming animation about the history of Falkirk.

Well worth a detour.
