A Christmas Frieze

I found this amongst my late parents old Christmas decorations boxes. I can remember it as a child on the wall every Christmas.
So it has been across the top of my fireplace this Christmas and I have really enjoyed looking at it. It is made of a type of foil on a stiff paper backing. I don't know what sort of foil it would have been way back in the 50's. I realise that I have no idea when rolls of kitchen (aluminium) foil even hit our kitchens.
