For the first time I discovered a mature grey coloured Monarch butterfly egg and while I missed seeing the caterpillar actually hatch, probably only by moments, I watched this very tiny creature  eat its egg case as it started its journey towards becoming a beautiful butterfly

It now begins about three weeks of almost non-stop eating before the next stage of its life cycle.
