Old Yards of Kendal.

Built in 1803 this alley was the location for Butcher's shops. There were still six of them there in 1890. There was also a Slaughterhouse here but by 1890 that had been moved out to the Canal Head.

Apart from the nature of the shops the appearance of New Shambles has remained virtually unchanged to the present day. I go to one shop to buy cheap refills for my very expensive Mont Blanc ball point pen which Mrs. K. Bought for me for some anniversary about 30 years ago.
Although why you should want to know that I cannot imagine.
