A little adventure
Up at sparrowfart - only a thrush was having a quick tweetle as son#1 and I left for the airport. A very civilised journey, no cars until Bandon, but the airport busy with people off to Malaga by the look of them - straw hats in evidence. A lovely Christmas, but I can't believe how it's flown by and suddenly it's nearly New Year.
A little adventure on the way home and a detour to take in four wells lurking in the environs of Carrigaline. Three out of the four located and this was my favourite. I had to ask at the house for permission to visit and Kate was very welcoming and took me down herself. What a spot, through a bamboo forest (!) right down to the river and there was this little well, still traces of blue paint clinging to it and the water inside clear and fresh. Apparently it once had a door but that has long since gone. The inscribed crosses are still cleary visible though. Kate knew nothing about it but had been astonished that it had received two visitors in the week - someone rolled up on Christmas Day and asked to visit as was traditional. I'm wondering if it might be dedicated to the BVM as it was once painted blue. Further research will be required.
