Brideshead Visited

Today was another wonderful day, though we were stuck for some time in traffic driving north-east to Castle Howard.

The house has been used more than once in film productions of Evelyn Waugh's novel 'Brideshead Revisited' and I've been before more than once, as the former Head Gardener was instrumental in forming the 'Professional Gardeners' Guild', of which I've been a member for more than 35 years, and we've had meetings there.

The house was closed for the winter, but the extensive grounds and gardens were open. After a frosty start the sun shone and continued shining all day - I took endless pictures with the background of a wonderful blue sky. We had a good walk around the South Lake and visited a number of the historic buildings in the grounds, ending up with a picnic lunch in the Rose Garden, before getting stuck in the traffic again on the way back to York! A wonderful estate!

Back in the town we did a bit of shopping and I walked back to the flat along a section of the city wall.
