This morning we had a short stroll along Portobello Promenade before our visitors came to stay for the New Year.   In a tiny community garden are three tall pillars made of “Coade Stone” dating from the early 19th century.  Originally they stood in a local garden and were restored before being placed here about ten years ago.  Each pillar is different and they are decorated with fleur de lys, the Prince of Wales Feathers and lions and a rose but I don’t know the symbolism of each.  The two smaller pillars are identical to the chimneys of Dalmeny House, seat of Lord Rosebery near Queensferry, built 1814 - 1817.
