Adventures In Brewing
The pub in our village plans to start a brewery in the near future, but they have limited experience of the process, so they asked me if I could help walk them through a little pilot brew.
I brew at home with a rather limited kit (in fact I haven't brewed that much over the last year as I drink very little these days), a modified Burco tea urn, a converted picnic box and some 5 gallon plastic buckets.
Dixie has invested in some very nice stainless steel kit, and put it in a purpose built shed at the back of their premises. A bit of shed / kit envy going on here!
It was a fairly long day of it, but productive, they have two beers fermenting that they can try in a few weeks time, see what they reckon, and start coming up with a plan of what they would like to brew when they get going in a commercial sense.
The two beers we have set going are probably best described as being a bit like Shepherd Neames Spitfire, and Thornbridge's Jaipur. It will be interesting to see how they come out.
