The drive north

It had gone swimmingly. A beautiful crisp morning and the remnant fog going north on the M40 shimmered above the road but not on it. A brief stop at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park for the tea and toilets and then onward. After Leeds the matrix signs all said the A1 north was closed.

We ended up diverting off at Thirsk and went through North Allerton (the photo) before hitching up with the A68.

I had hoped we might have had a selfie -  'my mother and I at Carter Bar' - but by then the sun had set and a stiff wind was blowing down of White Lees Mos.s

We stopped briefly in Jeburgh and arrived into Edinburgh at sixish. It was a good journey.
