Ullswater

We thought we had a lazy start this morning, so we pootled out to Pooley Bridge. The car park was empty but we were able to avoid it's exorbitant charges and park on the street. But so sad to see buildings still ruined and shops vacant - one year on from Desmond and I can't help thinking there should be more being done.
An easy amble along the lakeshore suiting us and pooch just fine. With stunning clear skies we could see that the Helvellyn range is dusted white again, perhaps winter will finally begin. We met a few dog walkers with a cheery "happy new year" and wandered for an hour or so to Howtown before turning back - into an incredible stream of people.

I know I don't tend to be in the honeypot parts of the Lakes often, but wow was it busy - I guess a lot of hangovers to be aired and resolutions to begin - returning to Pooley Bridge the car parks were full - I really hope a goodly percentage of these visitors popped into a local business or two - this lovely little village deserves to be back on its feet soon.
