Something Tragic

Something happened here
On the wide road to Tesco
Appearing to hover as if by magic
Against the sandstone wall, on a fast bend far from town

I stopped to look
A screw had been fixed to the stone
And stiff green wire
Wrapped around the screw
Held the rose stem in place

Pale pink petals
Flapped furiously in the wind
As if trying to escape

Something tragic happened here
And someone won't forget
