Sun-fly on ragwort
I've really enjoyed photographing this species of hoverfly this summer, the sun-fly or tiger hoverfly Helophilus pendulus. This one was obligingly sitting for ages on a ragwort flower where it had been feeding on nectar. When I took this photo, the hoverfly was cleaning its proboscis (tongue) with its front legs.
