A bit too late

My father used to quote a phrase* which translated from the Scots to 'a bit worse the wear for being bought early'. I'm pretty sure that applies to these veg which I'd forgotten about in a bag under the table. Poor wee things probably thought they were being left there to grow!

* I've had a couple of attempts to write it down but it didn't look right - it's obviously a spoken thing!!
