Newcastle Upon Tyne. I may not live here anymore but I still love it and it will always hold a special place in my heart.
I have returned to compete in The Morpeth to Newcastle marathon tomorrow. I used to watch the legendary Morpeth to Newcastle road race on New Year's Day as a kid and always hoped that I'd be able to run it one day. It is one of the oldest road races in the U.K. and the old black and white video footage is fascinating to watch. Unfortunately the race had to be cancelled due to road and infrastructure changes but over a number of years, mainly due to a social media campaign, the race has been reinstated. The course and distance have changed but I'm still excited to be a part of this event. It's the first time my parents will have seen me do a marathon and it's extra special to be at 'home.'
My training has gone really well and I'm absolutely loving my running this year, so I couldn't help doing a cheeky parkrun this morning! I would never ever recommend anyone doing a race the day before a marathon but sometimes you just have to run for the sheer joy of running! I actually had a bit of a blinder and ran 5km in 18:26 which beats my pb which has stood since I was 16! I knew I was in good shape but with lots of mileage in my legs I wasn't expecting to run quite so fast! Whatever happens tomorrow I'll be pleased with one good race under my belt.
