Southbank

We went into London today, primarily to see the Landscape Photographer of the Year exhibition on at Waterloo station.  I thought the images were of a high standard again and very enjoyable.  The descriptions contained even more information than usual about the processing or, in some cases (where the category allowed it) manipulation of the images.  In general I did not feel that the images were over-processed, which has sometimes been a criticism of this competition.

However, if you choose to go and see the exhibition yourself, do go in daylight.  We arrived late in the day when it was getting dark and, without daylight through the glass canopy of the station, the prints are very poorly illuminated and the display does not do them justice. I've had this complaint before:  when the exhibition used to be held at the national theatre the display was so much better.

Afterwards we strolled back via the Royal Festival Hall and across to Somerset House to enjoy a glass of mulled wine while watching the ice skaters.  The south bank is still decorated for Christmas - I guess this will change over the weekend.
