Goodwick Moor
At the bottom of many of my photos is the Goodwick Moor Nature Reserve which is managed by the Wildlife Trust of South and West Wales. The area is described as being a reed bed, flood plain mire, carr, scrub and a complex network of ditches. The reserve lie between 2 streams which combine at its north east corner. The reserve is 15.4 hectares in size and home to many bird species including Willow Warblers, Swallows, Buzzard, Sparrowhawk along with Otters and Water Voles.
I have long believed much more could be done to advertise this facility but so often the conflict between conservation and exploration is a difficult balancing act. The reserve had an excellent boardwalk system running through it which should have seen much more use. Unfortunately the timber has started to rot and some of the local horse riders attempted to use the boardwalk only for the horses to break through some of the boards. The result of this idiotic behaviour is that the Trust have decided to close the reserve altogether as they cannot afford to repair the boardwalks. Consequently a facility that was underused by the public is no longer being used at all and this situation is likely to continue for the foreseeable future.
