The saliva machine

Another peek down the microscope. This is a section of a mammalian salivary gland. Salivary glands are made up of secretory acini (acini - means a rounded secretory unit) which produce saliva and ducts which drain it into the mouth. The acini are stained blue and the red objects are cell nuclei.
It is mind boggling to me that animals can construct such complex things without having the least idea as to how they do it. It is even more boggling that we intelligent apes have the power to think about it and to start to work out how we do it!
