Knight's Point
We let Franz Josef quite early as we had a long drive to Wanaka and it always seems to take longer than expected. The weather was a bit brighter and at last we could the tops of some of the surrounding mountains. It must be lovely in good weather. From FJ we drove south towards Haast passing by Fox Glacier, Bruce Bay, Lake Paringa, Knight’s Point and then turning inland at Haast. Drove over Haast Pass which is within Mount Aspiring National Park At 562 metres above sea level it is the lowest of the passes traversing the Southern Alps.
From here we continued along SH 6 passing Lake Wanaka and Lake Hawea.
Since our descent from Haast Pass the weather (being in a rain shadow area) has improved dramatically and we now have warm sunshine and blue skies again.
