Experiences

It was a decree,
That life would have worth.
And men should have experiences,
In mortality...on earth.

To be tried in this life,
To withstand and endure.
And if he proved faithful,
Salvation would be sure.

If there were no experiences,
In the power of his earning.
Men would be futile,
In the degrees of his learning.

He would go forth faltering,
With his contents all spilled.
Having lost his accomplishments,
With his vessel unfilled.

To face God...he must,
In the hour of his loathing,
And the merits he claimed,
Would make him as nothing.
